Upgradation of Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KS&EW)

Executed comprehensive mechanical works, flowline construction, and compressor installation for the 425/525 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant, focusing on energy infrastructure.

Overview

The Upgradation of Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KS&EW) was a major project primarily focused on extensive electrical and utility works. The core infrastructure scope included laying both Low Tension (LT) and High Tension (HT) cables and implementing active and passive network systems.

AMCORP also installed sophisticated communications and safety systems, including a comprehensive CCTV system and an addressable firefighting system. The work demonstrated AMCORP's capacity for complex MEP integration.

Core Electrical and Networking Scope

The project was mainly constituted of highly specialised electrical works. This scope was crucial for modernising the shipyard's operational capabilities. It involved the specialised task of laying both LT (Low Tension) and HT (High Tension) cables across the facility.

Beyond the power supply, AMCORP delivered an advanced communication infrastructure. This included installing a comprehensive CCTV system and establishing both active and passive network systems. This integration of power and data networks was fundamental to the overall success of the upgrading project, providing essential connectivity. The meticulous planning ensured seamless data and power distribution throughout the complex.

Specialised Gas and Safety Systems

A critical and complex component of the upgrading was the installation of the piping system. This system was engineered to manage and distribute four different industrial gases.

The manifold and piping system facilitated the supply of CO2, oxygen, acetylene, and compressed air. Furthermore, a key safety component was the implementation of an addressable firefighting system, ensuring high-level safety standards were met across the shipyard facility. This detailed utility and safety infrastructure demanded specialised planning and installation.

Demonstrating MEP Integration Expertise

The successful execution of this project underscored AMCORP's expertise in providing comprehensive MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) integration within large industrial complexes. Handling the complex array of high-voltage power cables, sophisticated data networks, and highly specialised gas piping systems showcased AMCORP’s technical discipline and versatility.

By delivering this multi-disciplinary project on time in 2019, AMCORP significantly contributed to the modernisation of KS&EW. This work reinforced AMCORP's capability to operate as a reliable partner in major infrastructure upgrades for critical national facilities, enhancing the operational efficiency and safety standards of the shipyard.
