QICT Berth Backup Area Expansion Project, for DP World

Ground improvement for a 28-acre coastal land expansion using Surcharge loading and PVDs, including durable RCC structures and complete MEP works.

Overview

AMCORP is executing the Ground Improvement works for this 28-acre coastal land expansion at DP World Port Qasim. This complex project is being carried out on an EPC basis, utilising the Surcharge loading method accelerated by the installation of PVDs (Pre-fabricated Vertical Drains). The scope also includes the construction of nine RCC structure buildings, a PEB building, and comprehensive MEP works.

Key services involve the redesign of pile and building foundations, as well as the execution of extensive utility networks, including fire hydrant systems and electrical infrastructure.

Project Vision & Scope

The QICT Berth Expansion Project was launched to significantly enhance container handling capacity at Port Qasim, requiring the stabilisation of 28 acres of coastal land. The core challenge involved executing ground improvement works on an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) basis. This comprehensive approach ensures all stabilisation, construction, and utility integration are handled seamlessly, minimising risk.

The scope includes the construction of nine RCC structure buildings, a PEB Building, and a Maintenance Bay. Crucially, the project required the redesign of pile and building foundations, as well as pavement design for the expansive yard, to guarantee structural integrity for heavy container management. This complex scope showcases AMCORP's advanced technical capabilities in large-scale port infrastructure.

Advanced Ground Improvement & Execution

The ground improvement task was executed using the Surcharge loading method accelerated by the installation of PVDs (Pre-fabricated Vertical Drains). This EPC methodology, utilising international specialist design and equipment, demanded precision engineering and constant geotechnical monitoring to achieve the required land stability for the heavy cargo terminal.

Execution involved extensive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) works across the site. The MEP scope includes comprehensive utility services such as rainwater, sewerage, stormwater, and fire hydrant networks. Furthermore, AMCORP installed electrical systems and 150ft high night lights erected on pile foundations, ensuring operational safety and efficiency.

Final Outcome & Credibility

The project is designed to deliver a massive increase in the berth backup area, providing DP World with stable, state-of-the-art infrastructure built to handle future logistical demands. The successful deployment of specialised ground improvement techniques establishes AMCORP as a leader capable of managing highly complex civil engineering challenges on unstable coastal terrains.

This extensive contract reinforces AMCORP’s professional credibility and expertise in critical infrastructure development within the challenging marine and port environment. Delivering major projects on an EPC basis demonstrates our value as a reliable, end-to-end partner for multinational clients.
